Year-round employment, 18 to 30 hours per week.

Ideal job for the semi-retired and those interested in working for the cause of a local charity.

About us

F2F Direct Consulting has been representing charitable causes for over twenty years. Our community outreach is an extension of the charity's own philosophy as the new donor relationships we acquire are based on authenticity and transparency.

The Cause

A cancer diagnosis throws a person's personal and family life into heart wrenching disarray. They and their loved ones try to comprehend the cancer journey as the patient has to focus their limited energy on receiving treatment. Has the Alberta Cancer Foundation helped by making treatment available close to home, and can the Alberta Cancer Foundation help with unforeseen costs? Can we continue to hope for new oncological innovations and improved cancer care, so future generations are less likely to be diagnosed with cancer?

Every year, more Albertans are diagnosed with cancer because we have a growing and aging population. Yet, every year, Albertans are more likely to survive cancer, thanks to the steady advancements being made in oncology.

About the Donor Appreciation & Fundraising Position

Fundraising Ambassadors develop personal relationships between Albertans and the Alberta Cancer Foundation. They listen as Albertans share personal cancer journeys, they provide updates on developing cancer care, and they help explore the Alberta Cancer Foundation as a meaningful cause.

From October through April, engage Edmontonians as you stand or sit next to a display inside of a local grocery store. Conduct awareness in an inspirational manner that increases the Alberta Cancer Foundation's monthly donor base.

During the warmer months, some days you walk through neighbourhoods, door-to-door, inspiring Edmontonians to support the Alberta Cancer Foundation. Other days, you drive to the homes of current and recent supporters to thank them, at their front door, for making a difference with their monthly donation.

Shift Times

Our Fundraising Ambassadors typically work either three, four or five six-hour shifts and so, every week, they work between 18 and 30 hours.

Winter shifts in venues, such as grocery stores, start as early as 9:00 am and end as late as 9:00 pm.

Summer shifts outdoors start at 2:00 pm and end at 8:00 pm. Earlier shifts are available on weekends.

Use of your personal vehicle

When working at a venue, you need a vehicle to bring a small display and stool with you.

During the warmer months, you use your vehicle to visit current monthly donors at their homes. Your mileage is reimbursed as per the Canada Revenue Agency's recommended rate of $0.72 per kilometer. Typically one third of that offsets the cost of gas while the rest is intended for vehicle maintenance costs and saving for your next vehicle. You do not require commercial vehicle insurance, but you do need occasional business use insurance through your current auto insurance provider. Occasional business use insurance typically costs between $15 and $25 per month. We reimburse that cost up to $40 per month.

Safety

We have several safety policies and protocols in place to limit hazards associated with working alone. Fundraising Ambassadors do not enter people's homes. Every Fundraising Ambassador is provided with an iPad that is tracked by GPS and they know that their Campaign Manager will always answer their phone calls throughout the shift.

Training and Skill Development

While personability and personal integrity are necessary virtues in Donor Appreciation and Fundraising Ambassadors, previous experience as a fundraiser is not necessary since F2F Direct Consulting provides extensive training. New Fundraising Ambassadors begin with at home training modules. They shadow an experienced team member for at least two days before working alone.

Compensation

The starting wage of a Fundraising Ambassador is $20 per hour. There is no commission pay, but there is a periodic bonus that can add between $0.50 and $2.00 to every hour you work engaging the public.

Most Fundraising Ambassadors accumulate between three and four paid sick days every year and receive full individual health benefits after six months.

What does a day in the life of one of our fundraisers look like?

Here's a testimonial from one of our team members about why she loves her job:

  • I get to practice the art of communication -connecting with people and inspire them, what an incredible skill to build on and maybe the number one useful skill in any project, school or professional area.

  • I get to be outside-meaning I get to breathe fresh air rather than stale inside/office air. I experience outside sounds, look up at the sky, rest my eyes on trees, plants, gardens, quaint houses, tall buildings, people, in an environment that changes continuously and so offers so much variety.

  • Team briefing-I absolutely love discussing and sharing creative ideas around work experiences, tools, improvement etc with a team dedicated to the health and support and development of the whole and you've got another of my dreams come true.

  • Flexibility- I have always been met with understanding and a willingness to be flexible regarding my schedule, within reason of course.

  • The hours- I like waking up whenever I want to -I still get up quite early but just the feeling that I don't HAVE to, lessens stress in my day. I have enough time as well as energy to work on personal projects before my shift starts – and it ends early enough to still have some chill out time in the evening. And, it's (generally) Monday to Friday.

  • Fulfilling- What I do, what I talk to people about, has a direct impact. It supports the kind of world I'd like to be a part of building and the kind of transformation I'd like to see happening in our competitive, lonely, consumer-driven society. A society where we can all embrace being true citizens and stewards of this planet and of each other.

  • Management- Supportive, encouraging, available, progressive-thinking and operating.
